Cheese is a Great Food for Healthy Teeth

Cheese is a Great Food for Healthy TeethThere are more than 1000 types of cheese, I know right? All packed with calcium just packed up and ready to restore the enamel of your teeth! But all cheese was not created equal. While most all cheeses are tasty and offer quite a boost to your dental health not all of them offer the same advantages.

What is it about cheese that makes it so good for you exactly? To begin with, in addition to all that calcium it also has phosphorus to strengthen bone and Casein and whey protein to build up even more enamel.

Saliva is so important and the chewing of the cheese itself helps to stimulate the flow of the saliva to wash away sugar and bacteria. Saliva is such an important role in balancing the pH levels in our bodies after we eat. A lot of foods we eat resist this process, such as sodas and coffee and fruits, but cheese actually elevates the pH levels for upwards of 30 minutes after eating.

Cheese is a superfood!

These cheeses here are the real closers the all teeth-friendly go-to appetizer: Aged Monterey Jack and Cheddar, Soft-ripened Brie and Camembert, Blue Gorgonzola and Roquefort. Coming in second would be, the pre-packaged cheese dips, cheese sprays and American cheeses as these have some added sugars and some reduced cheese content and processed cheese content can and will wear down your enamel which of course increases your chance for cavities, but, they are not too bad.

It isn't always easy eating a good diet and know what is healthy for our bodies and especially our teeth. We aren't used to thinking about eating healthy just for our teeth, but it is an important thing to think about. We encourage you to call or come by the office and talk with us about what kinds of foods and drinks are good and healthy not just for your body, but for your teeth to keep them strong and healthy so you don't have tooth decay and gum disease and keep more of your natural teeth longer.

Respected As A Patient

I continue to be impressed with every aspect of dental care and service at your office. Everyone is wonderful and makes me feel important, valued, and respected as a patient; everything is explained in detail.
