Benefits of Eating Eggs on Your Oral Health

Posted on 10/5/2020 by Mark Bieber
Benefits of Eating Eggs on Your Oral HealthThough eggs are perceived as unhealthy because of the high level of cholesterol, they can be very beneficial when taken in moderation, especially to your oral health. Below are some of the oral benefits of eggs.

A Good Source of Protein

Eggs are rich in protein, which is very advantageous to the teeth. Protein helps in the creation of a healthy tooth structure as well as the development of the connective tissue. Lack of protein can greatly compromise the health of your teeth.

Protect the Enamel

Eggs are a good source of vitamin D, which protects your teeth and keeps them strong and healthy. It is also good for the absorption of calcium, which is necessary for the strengthening of the teeth. Though you can get vitamin D from the sunlight, eggs are safer than extended exposure to the sun.

Selenium

Eggs also contain selenium that is necessary for good oral health. Selenium has been known to cure mucositis and oral ulcers as well as provide an anti-proliferative effect. Research has also shown that it bars oral lesions.

Vitamin B2

Eggs are a good source of vitamin B2 (riboflavin), which is very essential for your oral health. Lack of this vitamin could lead to the development of mouth sores, which can be very irritating. Ensure that you consume eggs often to get this vitamin.

Your teeth need a healthy diet that eggs should be part of. You should, however, take them in moderation as the high cholesterol level may be unhealthy. No matter how healthy your diet is, it is still best to pay us a visit for an oral checkup at least twice a year. That way, your teeth will remain healthy and strong. Contact us today for the best dental care.
