Do You Floss Often Enough?

Posted on 9/27/2016 by Mark Bieber
A happy man flossing his teeth. You surely know that regular dental hygiene is an important part of keeping your teeth clean and free of cavities. You likely know that it is necessary to fight off gum disease.

You may even know that the beginning stages of gum disease are highly reversible if you catch it early enough and start practicing the appropriate hygiene practices on a regular basis.

But how often should you floss? Is it really necessary to do it every day, or can you get away with doing it less often?

You Need To Floss Every Day

The bacteria that live in your mouth are constantly in a state of high activity, eating the sugars in the foods you eat and releasing acids as a byproduct.

These bacteria stick to your teeth in plaque deposits, and many times these deposits are in places that a toothbrush cannot reach, such as between your teeth.

You need to remove the plaque every day-that means flossing. Every day. It may seem like a hassle to do this, but to neglect it can lead to cavities and gum disease.

Remember that gum disease can have disastrous consequences, not only for your teeth and gums, but even for your jaw bone. What's more, gum disease can lead to other diseases elsewhere in your body, such as cardiovascular disease and infections in other regions.

For the sake of your whole body, you need to brush at least twice a day and floss every day.
