Ultrasonic Scaler
Burbank, CA

Dental tools allow us to perform treatment, and having advanced tools means that you are getting advanced care. At Toomin & Bieber Aesthetic Comprehensive Dentistry, we take great pride in staying up to date in our skills, our techniques, and our technology. One tool that we frequently use is an Ultrasonic Scaler. In fact, most of our adult cleaning benefits greatly benefit from this tool. Its primary use is to loosen and eliminate hardened plaque, known as tartar or calculus from the surface of your teeth without damaging the enamel. Our professional hygienist, under the direction of either Lawrence Toomin, DDS or Mark Bieber, DDS, can remove harmful bacteria, stop the progression of decay and restore the health of your teeth and gums beginning with this valuable tool.

At Toomin & Bieber Aesthetic Comprehensive Dentistry, most adult dental cleanings are done with the ultrasonic scaler. Sometimes referred to as a deep cleaning, this tool allows us to remove tartar and calculus which collects along the rim of your teeth and can then dip down below the gum line leading to gum disease. Gum disease is a very common dental disorder in adults, in fact, studies show that more than half of adults suffer from some level of it. We can extend the health and life of your teeth by removing this harmful material.

Do I have gum disease?

Gum disease is an infection of the soft gum tissue in your mouth. This tissue is important because it supports your teeth. Infected tissue is harmful to your health because it is an active infection raging in your body, that your body can not heal from on its own, and the damage will be vast. From decay to gum tissue developing pockets and receding, or pulling away from your teeth, leading to tooth loss. Gum disease is unhealthy.

You may have gum disease and not be aware of it, but the symptoms can be spotted. Gum tissue that is infected may be red, puffy, irritated, and bleed easily when brushing or flossing. We can eliminate the infection, and help decrease the size of the gum pockets that have developed through a deep cleaning with an ultrasonic scaler.

The Ultrasonic Scaler Process

This tool combines the power of a strong directed stream of water and ultrasonic oxygenated bubbles. As the bubbles burst, they loosen tartar and then wash it away. As we use this tool, it kills microbes allowing the tissue to be able to restore to health. The thin tip of the scaler allows us the ability to navigate in the periodontal pockets, removing any debris, which will help you gain optimal gingival health. Our patients love this tool because:

•  No Chemicals:The ultrasonic scaler does not use chemicals, only high pressured water and oxygenated bubbles designed to burst on the surface of your teeth.
•  Enamel Safe:We can remove tartar and calculus without damaging the enamel of your teeth. We can even remove debris in hard to reach areas.
•  Suitable for Sensitive Teeth:The ultrasonic scaler is much more gentle than manual scaling. Patients rarely request pain relief anesthesia because there is very little pressure.
•  Fast and Effective:Using the ultrasonic scaler is a much faster process than manual scaling, while being extremely effective.

Following the use of the Ultrasonic Scaler, our professional hygienist will then hand scale to check for any leftover residual deposits.
